HISTORY
The Turcianske Teplice spa belongs to the oldest and best known spa towns in the whole of Europe. The first written text known to mention its existence refers back to 1281 when King Ladislaus IV the Cuman
(Hungarian: IV Laszlo, Slovak: Ladislav IV Kumansky) donated the territory, rich in thermal springs, to Count Peter. The healing effects of the thermal mineral water were keenly sought after by monarchs, noblemen, and by subjects of the lords. In 1423, King Sigismund of Luxemburg, attended by his entourage, tried the healing and regenerative effects of these springs. Another famous monarch, King Maximilian of Habsburg, Emperor of Mexico, came here to rest and recuperate. Countess Nyari, Francis II. Vesselenyi, and Maria Secianska, who was known as Venus of Muran due to her remarkable beauty, also came to the Turiec spa on a regular basis. Prominent doctors and scholars worked in the spa of Turcianske Teplice, many of whom, apart from operating their own medical practice, did scientific research here. The healing effects and rare composition of the Turiec thermal water were first described by Kremnica City Doctor, a Halle University Medical School graduate, Dr. Jan Lisschoviny. These days, the spa is an ideal place to relax, recuperate, take treatment, and to return to life. Visitors from all over the world come here to improve their health and well-being. Tales of the healing thermal water, with a high concentration of minerals, spread rapidly throughout the world.

Healing thermal spring
The thermal water of the Turiec spa, rich in mineral salts, has demonstrably healing effects on diseases of the locomotive organs and urinary, neural, and gynecological problems. The high contents of calcium, magnesium and fluorine are utilized for drinking cures as prevention against osteoporosis, multiple types of kidney stones, gall bladder problems and intestinal diseases.
The thermal water classification as per the Ministry of Health Service of the Slovak Republic Decree No. 212/2000 Coll.:
Natural healing, medium mineralized, hydrogen-carbonated, magnesium-calcic, with a higher concentration of magnesium and fluorine, slightly acidic, thermal hot, hypotonic with the total mineralization 1,508 – 1,514 mg.l-1 and the temperature of 44.3 – 45.4 centigrade.

Neurological diseases:
* neuropathy, post-polio syndrome, hemiparesis and paraparesis of vasal origin after 24 month from the beginning, stages after operations of central and peripheral nervous system
* Diseases of digestive tract
* Gynaecological diseases
Diseases of locomotory apparatus:
* rheumatoid arthritis and its variants (joint inflammation)
* ankylosing spondylitis (backbone inflammation)- all stages
* reactive and secondary arthritis
* scoliosis (backbone curvature)
* arthrosis, especially coxarthrosis and gonarthrosis – all stages
* vertebral syndrome (referred to backbone syndrome)
* osteoporosis
* manifestation on the tendons, muscles, bursas (inflammatory, postinfection, traumatic)
* states after the operations or injuries of locomotory apparatus including operations of intervertebral disc or joint prosthesis
* states after amputations of extremity patients in the preoperative preparation of joint prosthesis
Diseases of kidney and urinary tract:
* untuberculous chronical inflammations of urinary tract (uretrocystitis, pyelonephritis, interstitial nephritis)
* chronical pyelonephritis in solitary kidney
* small urolithiasis (urinary stones) with the spontaneous recession of concrements
* bilateral nephrolithiasis (kidney stones) which is not indicated for the operation cure
* states after the kidney and urinary tract operations including endovesical ones

* the states after abdominal operations and other operations referred to area of minor pelvis
The treatment is provided by the professional team of medical staff consisting of: internist, rheumatologist, orthopaedist, paediatrician, nephrologist and urologist with examination in specialty of physiatrics, balneology, curative rehabilitation and acupuncture.
There is a policlinic directly in Turcianske Teplice and Medical Faculty hospital in the town Martin of (23 km away) where it is possible to make consultation in other specialties, especially in neurology, neurosurgery, gynaecology and etc.
The spa healing process takes usualy 21 – 28 days and consists from these procedures:
* bath in thermal pool with water temperature of 38-39 °C, individual thermal bath with water temperature according to prescription of spa doctor, whirpool (pearl) bath, whirling bath, Scottish spout, underwater massage
* classical, reflexive massage, massage for lymphodrainage of lymphoedema
* complete electrotherapy including laser therapy, paraffin packs, subcutaneous gaseous injections with application CO2
* drinking cure, which comprises of drinking of thermal hot water with temperature of 40o C by some kinds of urolithiasis and after the operations of prostate and urinary tract
* drinking cure of cold mineral water with objective to keep diuresis and to dislodge urinary stones
SPECIAL CURATIVE REGIMEN:
* physical training for backbone diseases
* physical training for diseases of hip joints and knees joints
* physical training after backbone operations (intervertebral disc)
* according to R. Brunckowa
* hydrokinetic therapy orientated on reinforcement of backbone and extremities muscles
* calastenics, yoga, aerobic, relaxation in fitness centre
Persons with the following conditions will not be treated in this facility due to further health risk:
* infectious diseases transmitted to a person and germ carriers
* all diseases in the acute state
* clinical evidence of circulation prostration
* states after thrombosis within 3 month from the disease fading
* labile or uncompensated diabetes mellitus
* recurrent profuse bleeding of any kind
* cachexy of any kinds
* psammosarcoma during cure or after the cure with clinically observed symptoms of disease progress
* epilepsy, except cases with no attacks in the last 3 years
* psychoses and mental disorders
* dependence on alcohol and drugs
* incontinency of urine and stool
* pregnancy
* refractory skin defects of any origin
* hypertension and heart diseases

Spa Hotel Velka Fatra
Spa Hotel Velka Fatra will surprise you with a comprehensive equipment of rooms and a rich variety of services supplied. After an extensive reconstruction completed in 2004, all the rooms have been equipped with modern comfortable custom-made furniture. In each room there is a TV set with satellite
reception, radio, telephone, and a separate sanitary facility equipped with a bath or a shower unit, hair dryer, and a mini bar. Most rooms have balconies and there is Internet access available in the hotel. There are also two suites in the hotel for very demanding clients.
Doctor’s practices, a thermal pool, a fitness centre, and therapy and rehabilitation rooms are all under one roof of our modern complex. You will be able to enjoy your entire stay with us without any disturbance. Your car can be parked in the Spa Hotel’s communal garage or in the outdoor parking next to Spa Hotel Velka Fatra. SPA & AQUAPARK
SPA & AQUAPARK is situated at the end of a beautiful spa park, in the centre of the town Turčianske Teplice. Turčianske Teplice is situated in the Turiec valley, between the Malá and Veľká Fatra mountain ranges. The surroundings offer opportunities for hiking, cycling, bathing in the summer and skiing in the winter.
It consists of two parts:

LEISURE TIME
You can go for hikes, ride a bicycle, play golf, ride a horse, you can ski, enjoy fishing and even hunting.
Right at the place you will find a perfectly equipped fitness centre, a restaurant with both day and night bars, a lounge where you can play billiard, chess, cards or other entertaining social games. A beautiful spa park with lots of precious trees stretches near the hotels inside the centre. Although you are welcome to walk here every day, you will not have enough time to familiarize yourself with all of its beauties and mysteries. There are regular entertainment events, concerts of both classical and mainstream popular music, variety shows, dancing evenings, and visits to theatre performances and galleries prepared for everyone who likes having a good time at valuable art performances and socializing with nice people.
THE TURIEC REGION
The beauty of the Turiec nature is just magic. That is why people often call it Turiec Back-garden or Lost Paradise. The Ve¾ká Fatra mountains with their valleys of Blatnica, Jasenska and Gader, then The Mala Fatra mountains with their peak named Krivan (“Crooked Peak”), Valley of Vratna, Waterfall of Sutovo and the separate ridge called Martinské hole, all these place afford a great deal of space for lots of unforgettable hikes or juts lazy ambles. There is a path leading from the mountain chain of Kremnicke vrchy straight across the exact geographical centre of mainland Europe down to the historical city of Kremnica (better known as Kremnitz). A number of interesting castles and strongholds are located here.
Only some 15 kms from the spa lie the ruins of one of the smallest Slovak castles Zniev. Also the ancient castles Blatnica, Sklabina, and Strecno do deserve your attention. Just 1 km from the borough of Kremnicke bane is the geographical centre of mainland Europe. You will breathe in the fresh air of Turiec full of the rich history of those places. You can do anything you want. It’s all up to you!
